The Black Hole of Self Employment
Jun 7, 03:45 PM
Endless hours sending email messages out into a what seems to be a black hole where no one gets or reads email have left me feeling a bit defeated. Statistically it just doesn’t seem possible that you can send out 30 emails and not get one…no not one…response. Not even a “Thank you for your inquiry. We are unable to blah blah blah…” I’ll even take that at this point. Not to be discouraged, your friendly New York-based Canadian chanteuse battles on and will send out another 30 emails into the abyss today.
In other, more inspiring news…my brother and I held a joint recital for our piano/drum/voice students last night. They were adorable and so good. We try to make the recitals (and lessons) fun and full of experimentation as well as learning. Improvisation and making improvements to the written pieces is – mostly – encouraged. I had to draw the line at “improving” Bach. All the kids were amazing and it was so nice to see the pure joy in the performers and the audience. That’s what it’s all about.
Ok. I should be writing a new tune but instead I’m procrastinating here. I’m trying to write a tune based on lyrics by Shel Siverstein. I’ll let you know how it goes!
