Texas and Blue Note

Dec 15, 04:34 PM

Had a really fun couple of weeks playing at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City and then heading to San Angelo, Texas for a Christmas Pops show with Monday Off and the San Angelo Symphony. I promptly got a cold upon landing at La Guardia and had to postpone doing final vocals for my album but it was worth it.

The Blue Note show was a tribute to Blossom Dearie. The whole thing was a blast. The repertoire is really fun and playing with Avishai, Frank, Dan and Matt was a real treat. Don’t get me wrong, I love my boys in the ACQ but it’s nice to remember that I can hang with other folks too. I’m really bummed that the recording didn’t turn out so well. I’m hoping to salvage some clips that I can share.

Then I was off to San Angelo, Texas. San Angelo is the friendliest place I’ve ever been (and I’m Canadian — I know from friendly.) The people were very warm and kind. The orchestra was great! From the conductor (Hector Guzman) to the concertmaster and every single player that I could tell. Really high quality. And super nice. I think they really enjoyed playing our stuff which always makes for a more pleasant experience. I love playing with Orchestra. The feeling that I get when I get to sing backed up by this wall of sound is amazing. There’s really nothing like it. I hope that there will be many more to come. Our next show is in Erie in March. Can’t wait!
